Summer Stones

Fall 2024
Cherry, Ash, & Collected River Stones

I spent the summer of 2024 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee working at the Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts as an intern. Between my studio classes and hosting events for students, I spent as much time as I could in the Smoky Mountain National Park. On weekends, my friends and I would always walk to a much-loved swimming hole.  There, we would glide down the currents, catch crawdads, collect stones, and sunbathe on the warm sloped rocks. Every time we went, I would slip some stones into my pocket to preserve my memories. This chair is an ode to those perfect days of summer. The large seat rests on three “pebbles” and was designed so a person could sit crossed leg or with a friend but remain low to the ground. The stones from the swimming hole are embedded into the backrest and are cold against your lower back.
